All re-registration packets and new student applications must be returned to the school office by TOMORROW, Friday, January 27 to avoid a late registration fee and a wait list situation. Registration fees for the 2012-2013 school year will be processed through Smart Tuition and will be reflected on your March invoice.

MIDs Volleyball Tournament: Fri. Jan. 27

Even if you are not playing, you are welcome to cheer on the other MIS families in the MIDs 6 on 6 Co-ed Volleyball Tournament from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Friday, Jan. 27! Games will be played at MIS...for more information, contact Frank Casero.

Free Throw Competition: Fri. Jan. 27

The Knights of Columbus Council 5052 will sponsor a free-throw competition for the Farmers Branch-Carrollton area from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, January 27 at the Farmers Branch Community Recreation Center. All boys and girls ages 10 to 14 are eligible to compete in their respective age divisions (proof of age required.) The annual contest gives winners the opportunity to advance through local, district and state competitions. Parents can fill out entry forms at the event; registration is from 6:00 to 7:30 pm. MIS Student Led Mass: Sun. Jan. 29

Catholic Schools Week will kick off with an Alumni Mass at 10:30 a.m. at Mary Immaculate Catholic Church. Our current MIS students will be assisting with the Mass that day. All MIS families are encouraged to attend, with students wearing their MIS uniforms, to celebrate Catholic Education.

Catholic Schools Week 2012: Jan. 29 - Feb. 3

Sunday, Jan 29 – Alumni Appreciation Mass 10:30am (MIS Student-led Mass...please wear MIS uniforms!)
Monday, Jan 30 – Student Appreciation Day (Bingo and Sundaes...plus dress-down day!)
       REMEMBER...wear proper MIS spirit attire following dress down guidelines from page 21 of the Student Handbook.
Tuesday, Jan 31 – Current Family Open House 5-6:30pm...plus view the Class Gifts for the auction!
Wednesday, Feb 1 – Parent Appreciation Day (Treats at drop-off and pick-up)
Thursday, Feb 2 – Staff Appreciation Day
Friday, Feb 3 – Grandparent’s Day (Mass sitting with student at 8:15am, reception & classroom visits following until 11:30)
       REMEMBER...FRIDAY IS A 12 NOON EARLY RELEASE DAY!

Scholastic Book Fair: Jan. 30 - Feb. 3

Join us for Scholastic Book Fair in the MIS Library during Catholic Schools Week. Please click here for book fair hours and more information. And while you are there, purchase a Book for the USO! All MIS Families are invited to participate in the MIS campaign to provide books for the USO to be used in their United Through Reading Program, which assists military families by keeping them connected through reading. A military member is recorded and videotaped reading a book for the benefit of their children in the states. A DVD and the book are provided for the family so that the children have the benefit of listening to and following along with Mom’s or Dad’s voice nightly. Bring in a new book or buy one at the book fair to contribute to this very worthwhile program!

Online Auction: Jan. 31 - Feb. 7

The online auction begins Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at 8am and will conclude Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at 10pm. To register to bid or check on your previous login information, just go to the auction website at http://www.misauction.org/ and click Online Auction. To preview the items that will be available click on Auction Catalog locate on the auction homepage. The item categories that state “online only” will be the items sold online. These will include all of the teacher gifts of time, marquee messages and all gift certificates.

Chess Club Registration Due: Wed. Feb. 8

A new session of Chess Club is beginning on Friday, February 10th. To sign up for this 12 week session, fill out the registration form and return with your registration fee to the school office by noon on Wed. Feb. 8th. Click here for Chess Club info and registration form.

Candygrams

Have a heart! Send a Candygram and send a smile to your children and their friends this Valentine’s Day. Each student will receive a bag of goodies with heart messages attached. Simply click here to print, fill out the hearts, cut them out and return them to your teacher along with $1 for each Candygram you wish to send. Last day to submit Candygrams is Friday, February 10.  Support the MIS Highsteppers through your purchases! If questions please contact Liz Mahaffey at mahaffeye@cfbisd.edu.

Charitable Giving Letters

Charitable giving letters for income taxes for the money given to the Teacher/Staff gift fund were sent out by Kiddie Mail this past week...if you did not receive a copy but would like one for your taxes, to please contact Christina Palacios Martin at fmartin08@verizon.net. Letters acknowledging your 2011 Vision contribution will be sent next week, contact Holly Kerr at hkerr@mischool.org if you do not receive a copy by the end of this month.

Tuition Assistance/Scholarships

The Catholic Foundation has established a high school scholarship fund for the 2012-13 school year. Click here for the letter explaining criteria for eligibility. Spirit of Love Scholarships

Each year the Rebekah Leah Rivera Foundation awards scholarships to a graduating eighth graders ($500) and to graduating high school seniors ($2,500) in recognition of their community service. These scholarships honor the memory of MIS '97 graduate Rebekah Leah Rivera. To be eligible, a student must be a member of Mary Immaculate Church or must be graduating from Mary Immaculate School, Ursuline Academy or Jesuit. He/she must give proof of community service, provide a written essay, present at least one recommendation letter, and must be able to attend the Spirit of Love Awards Dinner in June. This year's deadline to apply for this scholarship is March 4, 2012.
