Scrip Sales Times
Scrip is sold every school day in the Spirit Store during these hours:
- Mornings: 7:45 to 8:15 a.m.
- Afternoons: 2:45-3:30 p.m.
Beginning October 16, 2010, Scrip will also be sold in the Church Narthex after the 10:30 and 12:30 masses.
What Is Scrip?
Scrip is a term that means “substitute money”. When you purchase scrip, you’re purchasing gift certificates and prepaid cards that are used just like cash. You can use scrip to purchase everyday expenses like food, clothing, and other essentials, and with every purchase, you earn revenue for Mary Immaculate School.
How scrip generates revenue for MIS?
The Great Lakes Scrip Center acts on behalf of churches, schools and other non-profit organizations to purchase large amounts of scrip from grocery stores, department stores, and other retailers. Because the scrip is purchased with cash up front, the participating retailers offer a substantial discount. Mary Immaculate School buys the scrip from Great Lakes Scrip Center at a discount, and re-sells the certificates to families like yours for full face value. The discount – from two to fifteen percent or more – is MIS revenue.
Scrip is "shopping cart fundraising”
Scrip is a popular fundraiser because MIS families don’t have to sell anything. You produce revenue for MIS simply by making regular household purchases you would make anyway. Groceries, clothing, toys, gifts, even gasoline can be purchased with scrip.
Scrip Purchasing Options
MIS maintains a limited amount of the most popular scrip gift cards and certificates (list found on the MIS Scrip Order Form). These Scrip gift cards and certificates are sold every school day. You may also mail in or drop off a scrip order anytime to the school office or Scrip desk. The order will be filled and left at the school office.
If you are aware that you will be purchasing large amounts of a retailer or you will be making regular purchases of a particular retailer, please let the Scrip coordinator know so that sufficient amounts can be kept on hand.
In addition to what MIS carries, Great Lake Scrip has hundreds of other retailer Scrip cards available. MIS can purchase any item found on the Great Lake Scrip Retailers list. If you would like one or more of these other options, please use the MIS Scrip Special Order Form and deliver it to the Scrip coordinator or school office and they will be purchased in the next MIS purchase. Normally, these are received within a week. If you intend to make periodic purchases of a retailer not normally maintained in MIS Scrip, please let us know and we will attempt to make plans to have those items on hand as regularly as possible.
Family Purchase Requirements
Each MIS family is required to either deliver a one time buy-out at the beginning of the school year or generate a minimum profit amount in Scrip dollars. You may see your progress towards and beyond your purchases in the Scrip Family Balances at the link at the top of this page (you will need to login and know your family ID). MIS receives a portion of each purchase made so please continue to purchase as much as you can!
After you reach your $150 profit obligation with Scrip, then 50% of the overage you generate will go to your first month’s tuition next year, and 50% will go towards the MIS Tuition Assistance. Current economic conditions have left several families unable to continue their child’s private education. We, as a school, are working on increasing our Tuition Assistance to help those families that need emergency tuition assistance, and this new incentive is one way that will help.
We encourage families to take full advantage of this program by:
• signing up for a monthly Scrip preorder with a bank draft
• getting your personal company involved
• asking other family members and friends to shop Scrip
Thank you for your support of the MIS Scrip program to help offset the gap between tuition and the cost of running MIS!
