eLearning Days

Why eLearning Days?

eLearning Days are intended to provide access to learning on days when there are school cancellations due to inclement weather, building issues or other events. While these days cannot replace the face-to-face time students have with their teachers, they can provide continuous learning when school is cancelled. eLearning Days also eliminate the need for makeup days at the end of the school year, helping families plan summer activities.

Be aware that eLearning days will put additional load on the internet and all services you are trying to use. Please be patient for responses. It may require 10-20 seconds for some indication that you are getting a response and longer to complete your request (whether it is a web page or a file download).

Office Hours

All teachers will be “available” from 8-4; however established office hours mean we will be present at our computers ready to respond to students/parents.

Office hours for all teachers will be 10:00-Noon and 1:30-3:30. Any changes to these hours will be communicated to the students/parents.

Attendance
Attendance will be based on the completion of the work for eLearning Days. At a minimum, students will receive a question each day, and will be expected to email back before 2:00 p.m. to let you know that they are “present” for the day.

Students who do not have the necessary resources may make arrangements with the teacher for additional time to complete the work. Students will be granted at least 2 school days to submit work after returning from an eLearning day if circumstances prevent timely work completion.  Students not completing the necessary requirements within the established timeline will be marked as ABSENT.

eLearning Day Communication
Mary Immaculate School will communicate with you using the following methods when an eLearning Day goes into effect.  Cancellations will be announced via Parent Alert, email, website and social media indicating that there will be an eLearning Day.

Options for contacting your child's teacher on an eLearning Day

  1. Send your child’s teacher an email to his/her school email address.

  2. Teachers, principals, and other licensed professionals will be available by email from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. After 4:00 PM, next day response will be the norm.

  3. Staff will respond to all communication requests in a timely manner during scheduled hours.

  4. Staff contact information can be found in the Faculty and Staff Directory.

Teachers will utilize the Lesson Plans section of the FACTS Family Portal for information required by the students. They may also utilize FACTS emails and other tools that the students are already using.

If an extended disruption of service occurs for any of our priority learning systems on an eLearning day, we will communicate to all stakeholders and determine at that time if we need to provide any additional extensions to work completion guidelines for staff and students.  The length of the interruption will determine if an extension would be warranted.  Similar communication methods described above will be used if this situation occurs.

5th-8th Grade Guidelines

Students in grades 5-8 will utilize FACTS Family Portal and/or Edmodo via the student login in order to access their assignments and expectations on an E-learning Day. Faculty will post their lesson plans and expectations for each course by 9 a.m. on an E-learning Day. These expectations will be posted in the Lesson Plans section.

Students will receive the eLearning Day activities for each class through the Lesson Plans and associated links and document attachments in the Family Portal. Course work may include but is not limited to links to videos, work pages, online readings, completing assignments using digital resources such as Microsoft Office or Edmodo, quizzes/assessments, or other web-based tools. In some cases, students may be directed to complete offline activities such as textbook readings or other assignments.  Students and Parents should contact their child's teacher if they have any questions regarding coursework.

For our 6th-8th grade students with a school email account, you may download a free version of Microsoft Office from the Office 365 portal for either Mac or Windows environments. Click on this article to help.

Kindergarten through 4th Grade Guidelines

Students in Kindergarten through 4th Grade will utilize FACTS Family Portal via a parent login on an eLearning Day.

On an eLearning day students in Kindergarten through 4th Grade will complete the activities in each of the subject areas listed. Upon completion, the parent/caregiver and child will email the required information and/or documents to the teacher.

If you have questions about any eLearning activity, please contact your classroom teacher.

It is very possible that the network response may be slowed by the new eLearning use that will be occurring across the nation. Please be patient. If something is not working, it may require that you simply try it again or refresh a browser page to access the content. If you require any technical assistance please contact the IT coordinator at it@mischool.org.
